Please note – in line with our commitment to reduce paper and go digital wherever possible, our Speech Night program and list of award winners will not be printed for distribution at this year’s event. Members of the community are instead invited to download the program via this link and to print out and bring along, as required. The list of award winners will be published on the College website on the Monday following Speech Night and parents will be able to access the list via this link.
Something quite beautiful is taking shape in our Early Learning Centre!
Following her artist residency in the Secondary School, Ballardong Noongar artist Esther McDowell (Yabini Kickett) is creating an eight-metre-long mural in our Early Learning Centre. The mural is titled Koolangka Walken, Children’s Rainbow.
As a strong, young, female Noongar artist and advocate for change, Esther’s time spent with our students has been a brilliant experience. The mural has become a collaborative community project, a teaching resource as well as a statement of our College’s commitment to embedding Aboriginal perspectives.
Families and community are offered the opportunity to participate by making their finger print on the mural across the next two weeks that align with these College events:
- Friday, 8 November and Friday, 22 November before Picnic and Pictures – 4pm to 6pm
- Wednesday, 20 November at the ELC Parents’ Picnic
Farewelling our Science facilities
We are delighted to have this week crossed the $400,000 mark in our fundraising campaign for the new Science Innovation Centre – this means we are now 80% of the way towards achieving our minimum target! This is all thanks to you, our wonderful benefactors and advocates! On November 20, we are hosting a special thank you soiree for our generous donors and those who may still be interested in giving towards the new Centre. We will begin with a farewell tour of the existing Science facilities (which have served us for almost 50 years!), followed by drinks, networking and short presentations from Foundation President Tony Connors and special guests – if you are interested in joining us on our exciting fundraising journey, please call Tanya on 9368 9711 or via firstname.lastname@example.org to reserve a place for the tour on Wednesday, 20 November or to find out more.
Having farewelled our Year 12s, we have now welcomed our new students and their families to Junior and Secondary Schools and the Boarding House through a number of welcome events. We look forward to making the next phase of the learning journey as happy, productive and rewarding as possible.
On Monday, 11 November, we will be having a whole school Remembrance Day Service on the Junior School Oval, from 10:50am-11:20am. All are welcome. It is an opportunity for us – students, staff, parents and loved ones – to gather together to commemorate the anniversary of the Armistice that ended the First World War, to remember those who sacrificed, suffered and died in all wars and armed conflicts, and to dedicate ourselves to the cause of justice, freedom and peace.
