Orientation Day is an incredibly important part of our transition program for girls entering Year 7 and Penrhos more broadly. Last Friday’s schedule of events did not disappoint, as our Junior, Secondary and Boarding schools welcomed new students to the community and helped those who are already with us to prepare for the changes ahead. The excitement was palpable as the girls stepped up for the next phase of their Penrhos learning journey. The day is designed to alleviate any worries as we help girls familiarise themselves with where classrooms are, who their teachers will be and how each day is structured – all while making new friends! A huge thank you to everyone who helped make Orientation Day a fantastic experience for our incoming students – a day this big can only be accomplished with the combined efforts of our Penrhos community.
ATAR exams – best of luck to our Year 12s, who started their examinations this week. Please show support by remaining quiet in signed areas of campus and by assisting any students from other schools who may be looking lost – they will be most grateful for your directions. Year 12 exams run until Friday, 20 November.
The Year 7 Celebration of Learning evening on Monday, 16 November is an opportunity for parents and caregivers to participate in the girls’ development and growth as they showcase their favourite work from the year. Our Year 7s have been encouraged to nominate pieces of which they are especially proud, including a Drama performance, English poetry slam, HASS Ancient Rome artefact and a Health anti-smoking commercial. Students should please respond to Mrs Rutherford’s survey and provide their teacher with any work they would like to be displayed. Families are warmly invited to join us in the Rixon Theatre at 4.30pm – the event will conclude with a parent sundowner in the Rixon Foyer with student activities in the Amphitheatre.
Along with Dean of Pastoral Care Michelle Taylor and Head of Boarding Michele Hay, I am preparing to hit the road to visit regional families for our annual Esperance Sundowner tonight, and then to Kalgoorlie on Saturday for a Boarding Information Evening with our brother school Wesley College. We are very pleased to be looking forward to a good turn-out, at what may well prove to be an annual destination in our calendar of regional activities.
It was great to welcome back so many alumni to reunion events for the Class of 2000 and 2010 last Friday. Our current students can look forward to these popular events as they join the Penrhos alumni community post-graduation, and thanks as always to the staff who also enjoy re-connecting with former students at reunions – your attendance is much appreciated by our Old Girls!
Best of luck to our younger students who are performing at tonight’s Junior School Spring Showcase. The concert will include performances by the Junior School Chamber Chorale, the Junior Voices Choir, the Junior School Wind Ensemble, the Junior Strings Orchestra, the Sinfonietta, the Junior School Percussion Ensemble, and the Suzuki Violin groups – a musical extravaganza for our community to enjoy.
And finally, thank you to the ELC staff and Marketing Department for making the Early Years Open Morning such a welcoming event for families wanting to learn more about our new early learning vision for 2021. I can confirm, they found the missing baby dragon!
We are excited to share that the implementation of our highly-anticipated Education Management System is underway. Compass is a digital school management system, available through all technology devices including laptops, pc’s smart phones and tablets – it connects the school community via a single platform with multiple valuable resources. Through its use, we will soon be able to simplify processes and communication channels as well as reduce administration for both staff and parents. Compass will replace the Penrhos Parent Portal from the very beginning of Term 1 2021 – we therefore will be providing training for parents towards the end of this year and into next. Please head to the COMMUNITY NEWS heading of this PCN for further information.
