Halfway Day for our Year 12s
On Thursday, our 12s celebrated the halfway mark in their final year at the College with a lunchtime picnic and entertainment in the Margaret Way Courtyard. It was fantastic to see that their sense of fun and positivity has remained strong.
It is very rare for an employee to remain continuously in the employment of one organisation for nearly 42 years, but Maintenance Team Member, Peter Phillips has done just that. Peter began at Penrhos in 1978 and will retire from his position at the conclusion of 2020. Peter knows all there is to know about our campus; his knowledge of all the spaces and where things have been stored is beyond compare. He has watched the College grow from the early days to present day. He loves a chat and will willingly help staff out in any way he can. We look forward to celebrating Peter’s exceptional service to Penrhos at the end of 2020.
IGSSA Cross Country
We are thrilled to be able to celebrate the return of IGSSA. Our Cross–Country Team kept up their running throughout Term 2 and competed this morning in the modified IGSSA Cross Country competition, involving all eight schools. Our team of 55 runners relished the opportunity to compete and represent Penrhos. We look forward to the final results on Monday. Congratulations girls!
Rowing is back for Penrhos and there will be a modified regatta for participating schools at Champion Lakes on Saturday, 27 June. Many of our rowers kept their fitness up throughout Term 2 on the ergos or in the single skulls. It is fantastic that they will have the opportunity to row in this friendly regatta.
Health Centre COVID-19 reminder
A reminder to parents that we are not yet out of the COVID-19 danger zone. Please do not send your daughter to school if she has any of the following symptoms:
- Fever (above 37.5C)
- Sore throat
- Runny nose
Our goal is to keep the students and staff well and healthy and this is only achievable if we keep transmission of symptoms to an absolute minimum. We are encouraging anyone with the above symptoms to undergo COVID-19 testing. We are asking for medical clearance from your GP prior to your daughter returning to school. We do not want to find ourselves in the situation of the NSW schools that have been closed due to positive testings of COVID-19.
Coming out of COVID-19
We are hopeful that the Phase 3 Restrictions in place at present will be lifted to enable events involving more than 100 people inside venues to take place.
Rehearsals for My Fair Lady have remained on schedule with performances to take place in Weeks 2 and 3 of Term 3. Bookings for these performances will be opened up once we know how many seats we can release.
Families will be pleased to know that we are now looking to reschedule many of the events that could not take place in Terms 1 and 2. Our priority will be our Year 12s – parents please note these important occasions in your diaries!
- The Father Daughter Dinner has been scheduled for Wednesday, August 19
- Mother Daughter Dinner has been scheduled for Saturday, September 19.
- We have rescheduled our Year 8 Camp to Week 4 of Term 3.
- Year 10 Camp will go ahead as planned in Week 9 of Term 3.
Further information about these camps will be sent to parents in the coming weeks.
Amenities beautification project
In 2019, the Wellbeing and Creative Arts Captains and Representatives worked hard to create a series of images to be used to enhance the various year group amenities spaces. These will now be turned into large stickers that will be adhered to the walls and the students are very excited to see their designs come to life. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the P&F for their generous financial contribution to this student led project.
We were delighted to recently launch our new virtual tour to the Penrhos website. If you have a moment, I encourage you to take a look via this link: https://penrhos.wa.edu.au/virtual-tour-2/
The virtual tour is a great way to showcase our beautiful campus, especially for those prospective families who are unable to physically tour as they are located regionally or internationally. You may notice the voice overs are familiar – sincere thanks to Fleur Cagnana and Tony Urbini for your support.
