Making the right choice, by Laura Nichols.
Making the choice to send our daughter away to boarding school was one of the hardest decisions we have had to make as a family. Once the decision was made, the problem we then encountered was which school would best suit our child.
We remember visiting websites, reading through pamphlets and sifting through the vast amounts of information trying to choose the right school.
I recall at a field day being told by a Principal of one school that my daughter would know the school for her as soon as she visited.
Our tours began. As soon as we entered the Penrhos community we felt comfortable and welcomed as a family.
We asked our daughter her thoughts about Penrhos, she smiled and the comment was made that this was where she wanted to be. She didn’t need to look at any more schools.
Our decision was made. We have never looked back.
Penrhos and boarding have provided our daughter with a great social, educational and sporting environment in which to grow and succeed. She has experienced many amazing life experiences along the way already, with the journey yet to end.
All the staff we have had the opportunity to meet and interact with along the way have been fantastic, from grounds staff that support boarders’ cricket on Wednesday nights, to friendly, helpful office staff, to our lovely and caring house mothers.
There have been a few ups and downs along the way, like homesickness at times. However, with the help and support of all involved we have managed to survive and see the future ahead, one small step at a time.
We have enjoyed watching our daughter grow into a strong, independent young lady whilst boarding, making great friends and her own lifelong choices along the way, which will shape her into a great young adult.
And as I drive away each time, still with a tear in my eye, I believe we made the right choice in choosing Penrhos for our child, as hard as it was to make that decision.
