Embracing Culture and Community through Languages
by Scott Haddrell, Head of Department - Languages
For ten consecutive years, Penrhos College has been a leader in language education, often topping the WA leaderboard.
This consistent performance reflects not only the hard work and enthusiasm of our students but also the dedication and expertise of our language teachers.
Our educators go beyond traditional teaching methods, incorporating singing, games, cooking and excursions to make language learning both relevant and fun.
More Than Just a Subject
At Penrhos College, languages are more than just a subject; they are a way of life. Starting their journey in Year 7, students immerse themselves in language and cultural studies, forming strong bonds and friendships that last throughout their school years and beyond.
The shared experience of learning a new language and culture creates a unique and supportive classroom environment, fostering both academic and personal growth.

Students frequently share stories and adventures from these trips, bringing the richness of their experiences back into the classroom.
Lifelong Connections
The relationships formed between our language teachers and students extend well beyond graduation.
Many of our alumni maintain close ties with their teachers, attending reunion dinners, catching up regularly, and even inviting them to significant life events such as weddings. These lasting connections are a testament to the supportive and nurturing environment that our language department fosters.
