2027 SCHOLARSHIPS
We regularly review our scholarship opportunities and application requirements to ensure we continue to reflect the changing needs of our community. In 2027, we are pleased to offer the following scholarships:
Academic and General Excellence Scholarship
The Academic and General Excellence Scholarships celebrate academic excellence and students' passions.
This scholarship awards a minimum value of 25% remission of tuition, and a maximum value of 50% remission of tuition for the remainder of Secondary Studies at Penrhos. The full value will be determined by the Principal.
- Age: students entering Years 7-9 in 2027
- Eligibility: Australian citizens or Permanent Residents residing in Western Australia. Students not currently attending the College are eligible to apply, as well as Year 6 students (in 2026) from Penrhos College and those already accepted for Year 7, Year 8 or Year 9 2027. Current Penrhos College Secondary School students are NOT eligible to apply

Margaret Way Alumni Scholarship
The Margaret Way Alumni Scholarship celebrates the academic achievements and passions among students who are the daughters, granddaughters or nieces of Penrhos College alumni.
This Scholarship has a value of 25% remission of tuition for the remainder of Secondary Studies at Penrhos.
- Age: students entering Year 7 in 2027
- Eligibility: Australian citizens or Permanent Residents residing in Western Australia, whose mother, grandmother or aunt attended Penrhos College. Students currently enrolled or enrolled to commence Year 7 at the College in 2027, and prospective students, are invited to apply
- Applications close: Wednesday, 4 February 2026 at 9pm (AWST)
- Scholarship testing exam: Saturday, 14 February 2026

Foundation Impact Scholarship
The Foundation Impact Scholarship provides the opportunity for students who would thrive in Penrhos’ stimulating environment but would otherwise be unable to attend due to financial reasons.
The recipient of this annual scholarship is generally an all-rounder, with skills, talents and interests across a number of areas, and who would take advantage of all the opportunities Penrhos has to offer.
We encourage students who are passionate about one or more of the following areas to apply: creative arts, performing arts, sport, community service, leadership.
This Scholarship has a value of 95% remission of tuition for the remainder of Secondary Studies at Penrhos, as well as a $2,000 uniform stipend and waived Family Confirming Fee.

Michael Boud Foundation Boarding Scholarship
The Michael Boud Boarding Scholarship is awarded to those who demonstrate academic excellence or ability, and who require boarding facilities to attend the College.
The scholarship awards a 50% remission of tuition and 50% remission of boarding fees for the remainder of Secondary School studies at Penrhos.
- Age: students entering Years 7-8 in 2027
- Eligibility: Australian citizens or permanent residents residing in regional Western Australia who are not already enrolled at the College
- Applications close: Wednesday, 4 February 2026 at 9pm (AWST)
- Scholarship testing exam: Saturday, 14 February 2026

Red Dragon Scholarship
Red Dragon Scholarships provide the opportunity for students who would otherwise not be able to attend Penrhos due to financial reasons.
The recipient of Red Dragon Scholarships are generally 'all-rounders', with skills, talents and interests across a number of areas, and who would take advantage of all the opportunities Penrhos has to offer.
We encourage students who are passionate about one or more of the following areas to apply: creative arts, performing arts, sport, community service, or leadership.
This scholarship awards a value of 50% remission of tuition for the remainder of Secondary Studies at Penrhos. Additional remission of boarding fees may be considered based on an applicant's need, and boarding house availability.

- Eligibility: Australian citizens or Permanent Residents residing in Western Australia, who are not already enrolled at the College

Music Fellowships
Penrhos offers Music Fellowships to students who demonstrate musical aptitude – whether that’s instrumental or vocal.
Fellowships offer up to 100% remission of music tuition fees on one instrument for the remainder of the studies at Penrhos.

MADALAH Indigenous Scholarship
Penrhos is proud to partner with MADALAH to provide Secondary School Scholarships for Indigenous students from remote, regional and metropolitan areas in Western Australia.
MADALAH Limited is a not-for-profit organisation that offers secondary and tertiary education scholarships for Indigenous students – primarily from remote and regional communities – to WA’s leading boarding schools and Australian universities.
MADALAH Indigenous Scholarships provide a grant payment for the remainder of Secondary School studies at Penrhos. These scholarships are administered by MADALAH on behalf of the National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA).
We are seeking students who demonstrate all-round effort and achievement, and who combine a positive attitude to their academic study with the willingness to embrace new challenges.
Age:
- Students entering Years 7-9 in 2027 (day students only)
- Students entering Year 7 in 2027 (boarding students)
Eligibility:
- Applicants must be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent and be able to provide proof of descent
- Applicants must be eligible for ABSTUDY and/or meet any gap payments
- Applicants must have a good school attendance and behaviour record
- Applicants must have a home location in Western Australia

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How many scholarships will be awarded?
Penrhos College generally awards between 10-15 scholarships each year.
When will I find out if I have been successful in securing a scholarship?
Shortlisted candidates will be contacted by March 2026. Please note the scholarship process can run up to the end of Term 2, 2026.
What are the key dates for applying?
- Opening date – Monday, 24 November 2025
- Closing date – Wednesday, 4 February 2026 at 9pm AWST
- Academic testing date – Saturday, 14 February 2026
What documents are required when applying for a scholarship?
You will typically need to provide:
- A completed scholarship application form
- Birth Certificate
- Semester One 2025 School Report and Semester Two 2025 School Report (please only submit your scholarship application once your Semester Two 2025 School Report has been released)
- Most recent Naplan results (Year 5/7/9)
- A Passion Portfolio - evidence of your passion or achievements in the relevant area (e.g. academic, music, sport, dance, drama, arts, leadership, community service, ...). These can include images of certificates (please convert to PDF format for submission)
- Some scholarships will also require a Student’s Personal Statement, Parental Statement, Parental Income Statement or Teacher/Coach Statements
- Proof of citizenship or residency (must be an Australian citizen or Permanent Resident, residing in WA). The required documents are an Australian passport, a Citizenship Certificate, or a Visa Grant Letter
Can I apply for more than one scholarship? Do I have to complete multiple applications?
Yes, you may apply for multiple scholarships, provided you meet the criteria for each. Only one application form is required; please ensure to tick all the scholarship boxes you wish to be considered for in your application.
Do I have to sit an Academic Testing Exam?
A written testing exam is required for the following scholarships only:

I’m a current student; can I apply for a scholarship?
Yes, current 2026 Year 6 Penrhos students are eligible to apply for the following scholarships:

Current 2026 Year 6-8 students are eligible to apply for the Music Fellowship.
I would like to apply for a scholarship, but I have already accepted a place at the College; am I still eligible?
The Academic & General Excellence Scholarship, Music Fellowship, MADALAH Scholarship and Margaret Way Alumni Scholarship is open to students who have already accepted a place at the College, provided you meet the eligibility criteria.
Which year levels can apply for scholarships?
For the 2027 intake:
- Academic & General Excellence – students entering Years 7–9
- Red Dragon – students entering Years 7-9
- Foundation Impact – students entering Year 7 only
- Margaret Way Alumni – students entering Year 7 only
- Michael Boud Boarding – students entering Years 7 & 8
- MADALAH Indigenous – students entering Years 7–9 (day or boarding).
- Music Fellowships - students entering Years 7-9
Are there boarding scholarships available?
Boarding students may apply for any scholarships they meet the eligibility for.
The Michael Boud Boarding Scholarship is awarded to one incoming Year 7 or 8, 2027 boarding student and provides 50% remission of both tuition and boarding fees. Pending boarding house availability there may also be the ability to combine part remission of boarding fees for a student receiving a Red Dragon Scholarship.
How is the value of the scholarship determined?
Scholarship value is determined by the Principal and is up to 50% unless otherwise specified.
Are scholarships renewable each year?
Scholarships are for the duration of your Secondary Studies (Years 7-12).
Is there an interview or audition?
Yes, all shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview or audition.
If I am unsuccessful this year, can I apply again in future years?
Yes, provided you still meet the eligibility criteria.
What happens if I accept another scholarship or enrol elsewhere?
If you accept another scholarship elsewhere or withdraw your acceptance, you must inform the College immediately. Terms and Conditions will apply accordingly.
I’m an Indigenous student; which scholarships can I apply for?
Indigenous students are able to apply for all scholarships, provided you meet the eligibility criteria.
Do you offer music scholarships?
Talented musicians are encouraged to apply for a Music Fellowship in addition to other tuition-based scholarships that may meet their needs (ie Academic and General Excellence or Red Dragon). Students are able to combine a tuition-based scholarship with a Music Fellowship.
Do you offer specialist sporting, drama or dance scholarships?
No. Penrhos College does not offer specialist sport, drama or dance scholarships. In alignment with the agreed practices of IGSSA schools, scholarships are not awarded on the basis of sporting ability alone. Achievement in sport, drama, dance and other co-curricular areas is instead considered as part of our broader all-rounder scholarship categories.
