Using a bus service is a great way for students to develop independence and support parents who manage multiple school runs or need to commute to work. It also has the added benefits of reducing traffic congestion and environmental impact.
The bus services available to students travelling to and from Penrhos College are operated by Transperth and Horizons West.
To access the bus services for either provider, students will need a Student SmartRider. Application forms are available from Junior School and Secondary School receptions. Only one SmartRider is required per student, where value added towards Transperth and Horizons West services need to be done separately via the relevant provider's website.
Transperth SERVICES
The Student SmartRider service provides free travel for any Transperth journey Monday to Friday during the school year; however, cards are issued with zero balance and students will need to add value to their card before using it (even for the free services).
Transperth operates several student-only bus services for students living in Applecross, Booragoon and South Perth:
- Bus No 753 (morning) – Canning Bridge Station to Wesley via Penrhos
- Bus No 753 (afternoon) – Wesley via Penrhos to Booragoon Bus Station
- Bus No 787 (afternoon) – Penrhos to Booragoon Bus Station
Please note: Transperth school bus services only operate during gazetted public school terms, which can differ from Penrhos term dates. Information about State Government gazetted school term dates can be found on the Department of Education website.
The following Transperth services have scheduled stops near Penrhos, but operate as public bus routes:
- Bus No 33 (morning)
- Bus No 34 (morning)
- Bus No 33 (afternoon)
- Bus No 34 (afternoon)
As all of these Transperth routes are operated externally and subject to change, please visit the Transperth website or phone 13 62 13 to confirm bus information prior to commencing the first journey.
Horizons West SERVICES
Horizons West is a contracted partner with Wesley and Penrhos College for student bus services to/from Bicton, Harrisdale/Rossmoyne and the Perth Hills.
Students are able to use their SmartRider to tap on and off the Horizons West buses.
- Value can be added to the SmartRider via the Horizons West website. The minimum deposit is $50 (please ensure that you enter a valid email address when you set up your account as you will receive notifications when the funds need topping up).
- Bus rides cost $2.50 per trip.
- Funds loaded on the SmartRider for Horizons West buses are separate to any funds loaded onto the student's SmartRider for the Penrhos Cafe (via FlexiSchools) and Transperth.
This system removes the need for cash handling and allows Penrhos to know how many students are boarding the Horizons West buses to ensure appropriate services are used for each route.
